Lasik Eye Surgery
Lasik Eye Surgery
My husband has worn glasses since he was a child. He isn’t
really into contacts, so until the advent of lasik eye surgery,
we figured he was destined to wear glasses and rely on my good
eyes for the rest of his life. He became interested in lasik
eye surgery almost as soon as it was made available, but a fear
of having anything jabbing around his eyes kept him from
pursuing it at first. A fear of the cost kept me from
encouraging him to pursue it.
It wasn’t until about a year ago, that he got so tired of
wearing glasses that he started doing a bit of research on
lasik eye surgery. I knew he was serious about it when he
started leaving charts at my place at the breakfast table that
compared the cost of lasik eye surgery to the cost of replacing
glasses for the rest of his life. Sometimes at dinner, in
between asking me to pass the potatoes, he would casually
mention that he had heard the cost of lasik eye surgery was
going down.
Finally, I got the hint and I agreed to go to the lasik eye
surgery office with him and investigate whether or not he was a
good candidate for a lasik eye surgery procedure. The whole eye
exam only took a few minutes and we were able to watch a video
of the procedure in the waiting room. I have to admit, that I
was a bit squeamish about the idea, but my husband was so
excited that I didn’t want to stand in the way of his lasik eye
surgery. If he wanted to have his cornea peeled back, I figured
that was up to him.
The day of his lasik eye surgery, we showed up at the office
on time, eye drops in hand and ready to toss his glasses in the
trash bin on our way out the door. The doctor informed me that
as the spouse of the patient, I could watch the whole lasik eye
surgery on a monitor. I can honestly say that I have seen a
side of my husband that most wives don’t get to see.
It wasn’t until the doctor was halfway into the lasik eye
surgery procedure that I had an awful thought and almost yelled
for the doctor to stop. I suddenly realized that for the first
time in our marriage, my husband would really see the way I
look first thing in the morning.
