An Introduction To Acupuncture
In this article we look at some
introductory concepts, tips and helpful information about
the ancient healing practice of acupuncture ...
Tips for Selecting the Best Acupuncture
Clinics
Acupuncture clinics have been sprouting up like mushrooms. A
lot has changed indeed since the ancient Chinese art of healing
was first introduced in our shores. Their sudden proliferation
could only mean one thing, the increasing demand from patients!
Acupuncture has been scientifically proven many times to
actually do what it claims. The fact that western medicine can
actually substantiate or explain the effectiveness of the
practice has made acupuncture clinics even more popular.
Acupuncture Clinics – Choosing the
Best…
States usually impose many laws on acupuncture
practitioners. These may vary from one state to another. The
first thing you should do when choosing an acupuncture clinic
is to know what regulations apply for that particular state.
For instance, some states require that all acupuncture
practitioners be licensed. So be sure to look for credentials
when visiting the clinic.
Acupuncture comes in many flavors. Some acupuncturists provide
slightly modified versions where they provide mild electric
charges or heat to the needles while they are inserted. Others
provide additional services alongside acupuncture like
acupressure. Still others provide Chinese dietary advice and
herbal medicine. Make sure that the practitioners have acquired
a degree in Oriental medicine if they prescribe herbal
products.
Another thing that patients should determine is the style of
acupuncture. Aside from the traditional Chinese acupuncture,
there are Korean and Japanese varieties. The Korean variety
focuses on the hands. The Japanese version usually does not
insert the needles deeply. Most patients actually have the
Chinese version in mind. While those trying alternative
medicine should keep an open mind, do take note that it is the
Chinese version that has been verified by medical experts to be
effective.
Some clinics do not focus solely on eastern medicine. They
practice both western and eastern medicine. This is a good
alternative because you can get the best of both worlds. Many
acupuncturists are actually licensed medical doctors. They will
usually combine treatments, providing acupuncture, herbal
medicine and prescription drugs.
Another good way to look for acupuncture clinics is by
referral. Good word of mouth is an excellent way to gauge a
clinic’s reputation. As a matter of fact, a majority of
acupuncture patients found their way to a clinic by
referral.
