Acupuncture and fertility clinics are gaining a lot of attention lately. They have become the last hope of many couple who fail to conceive. But does it really work? How does acupuncture relate to the reproductive process? Many will sure be skeptical of the claim that acupuncture will help increase fertility. But the simple truth is that an astounding majority of patients who seek acupuncture treatment come out with successful results. How does science explain the acupuncture and fertility connection?

Acupuncture and Fertility – The Basic Facts

How does acupuncture work in treating fertility? No one knows for sure. While the process is not clearly understood, this much is known. Many of those desperate couples who seek treatment do conceive successfully. A possible explanation would be the role of endorphins on the body. Acupuncture has been proven in studies to increase endorphins in the brain which helps people relax and improve blood flow throughout the body.

To be honest, acupuncture is not prescribed for those with physical illnesses like blocked fallopian tubes. Rather, it is for those who face some sort of functional difficulty in conceiving, like stress or hormonal imbalances. It is with the latter that acupuncture is mostly successful. The success rate for these cases can sometimes reach eighty percent of all patients.

Acupuncture is not painful at all. The thought of needles stuck onto the body is a major turn-off for many couples but the simple truth is that they hardly feel a thing. Acupuncture needles are several times thinner than hypodermic needles. They are as thin as hairs. Once patients overcome the initial fear of needles, they quickly realize how relaxing and calming acupuncture is.

Acupuncture and fertility treatments in Chinese clinics are not at all expensive. Typical fertility treatments can usually cost anywhere from ten thousand to twenty thousand dollars. Yet many still don’t come out with success. Acupuncture is much more affordable. Because it is viewed as alternative medicine, it is usually regarded as the last resort for couples seeking treatment. In fact, owing to its low cost and high success rate, it should be the first stop couples make when seeking infertility treatment.

Acupuncture Overview - Summary

Acupuncture has been in use for well over 2000 years. There is evidence that a form of acupuncture was used as early as the Bronze Age. It is one of the first components of Chinese traditional medicine to gain wide acceptance in the Western world, and was declared to be safe and effective for treating some conditions by the FDA in 1995.
