Using Acupuncture Points To Control Energies

 Acupuncture

Acupuncture points are central to studying acupuncture. Acupuncture works differently from Western medicine. The theory that supports this practice is based on the concept of balancing Yin and Yang in the body. In Chinese metaphysics, diseases and ailments are believed to be caused by the imbalances of these energies. Acupuncture points tell where needles can be inserted to either release Chi or modify the flow of energies within the body to restore equilibrium in the body and heal illnesses.

Acupuncture Points 101

Ancient Chinese medicine tells about the concept of energies flowing within our bodies (Chi). They travel a path that is commonly referred to as meridians. Imbalances in these flowing energies cause ailments and illnesses. By placing needles at critical points where Chi flows – the acupuncturist hopes to influence the flow of Chi in order to restore equilibrium. This is believed to induce healing.

There are many meridians or energy paths in the body. The most recognized meridians are the twelve paths that run along the entire body. These twelve paths are responsible for controlling the body’s functioning. Aside from these paths, there are numerous other minor meridian paths. Knowing them is the key to successfully practicing acupuncture. Actually, the bulk of acupuncture training revolves around knowing these meridians.

While all this talk of eastern mysticism is sure to provoke the indignation of scientists and medical professionals bred in the Western models – there is significant evidence that acupuncture actually works. What is happening is that many medical experts and researchers are finding out that placing needles at certain points in the body is effective in combating certain illnesses. How it exactly works is not understood.

It has been found that endorphins are released during acupuncture. There is general agreement, however, that more research is good. Acupuncture points, in a way, have been partially substantiated to be true with the discovery of painful points. Painful points are areas in the body that, when stimulated or inserted with needles, can relieve pain. It was later found out that there painful points have largely been named as acupuncture points by the Chinese approximate three thousand years earlier.
