How Does Acupuncture Treatment Work

Acupuncture treatment is a highly popular means of restoring a person's health. It's especially useful for easing arthritic pain. You don't have to depend solely on painkillers and steroids to get relief. Acupuncture treatment is one alternative to get rid of the pain.

When people think acupuncture, the first thing that comes to mind is traditional Chinese medicine. It's been practiced the world over for centuries. In fact, early acupuncture examples go as far back as the first millennium. In acupuncture, needles are inserted nearly anywhere on the body including the back and arms.

16th century Chinese docs believed that illnesses were caused by energy imbalances in the body. In the practice of acupuncture, people use disposable steel needles that are stainless to stimulate the 14 key meridian centers in the body and resist or recover from various physical conditions. These are channels that carry energy.

Many believe that acupuncture is effective in reducing pain. It ups the release of endorphins - the chemicals that help block pain. A lot of acu-points are located close to the nerves. Whenever stimulated, the nerves induce a full or deadened feeling in muscles. The stimulated muscles then transmit a message to the spinal cord and brain and cause the release of endorphins. Endorphins alter nerve impulses and block pain messages, preventing their delivery to the brain.

Acupuncture Treatment – Conditions Where It Can Help

While acupuncture isn't a cure-all, it's been particularly useful in treating a number of diseases and physical disorders. It's most effective in dealing with chronic pain conditions like menstrual cramps, headaches, and neck, lower back and muscle pain. Acupuncture can also help treat facial pain, colitis and spastic colon conditions, pain brought about by shingles and arthritis. This type of treatment has also been highly successful in addressing obesity and nicotine and drug addictions . Getting some acupuncture work done can also improve the immune system's proper functioning.

For people suffering from serious illnesses, do not simply rely on acupuncture for treatment. Make sure to consult with a doctor prior to receiving treatment. It's possible that acupuncture isn't the only solution for your condition. Your doctor might recommend acupuncture treatment in conjunction with others like medication or physical therapy.
