Electro Acupuncture

 Acupuncture

Electro acupuncture is about applying pulsating electrical currents toward acupuncture needles to stimulate the body's acu-points. This practice traces its roots in China in the 1930s. It's an extension of hand needle manipulation. Like a typical acupuncture treatment, needles are inserted to attain “qi” reaction via hand manipulation. In the course of electro acupuncture treatments, electrodes are then attached to the needles to sustain the stimulation.

Electro Acupuncture – The Good and the Bad…

Acupuncture counts among the oldest medical procedures used in the world. Its popularity continues to grow in the United States and elsewhere on the globe. There are a lot of upsides to using electrical stimulation to relieve pain. Here are some of them.

* In electrical stimulation-assisted procedures, controlling stimulus frequency as well as its amount is easier compared to that of hand manipulation of several needles.

* The electrodes replace prolonged hand-maneuverings. They ensure that patients attain the right amount of stimulation. With traditional acupuncture treatments, practitioners might pause once in a while due to exhaustion.

* Since provision of continued stimulus is possible with electrical stimulation, it reduces the treatment time required. While a session is underway, practitioners free themselves up to see to other patients.

* Stronger stimulation is produced in electrode-assisted acupuncture. The risk of tissue damage when lifting, thrusting and twirling needles is practically nonexistent. Cases where strong stimulation may be required are severe paralysis and neuralgia.

With the plus points come some drawbacks of electrical therapy acupuncture. A major downside of this treatment is that there's minimal direct practitioner involvement in the therapy. In situations where changes take place during the course of treatment, practitioners are unable to respond quickly.

For practitioners who leave patients to rest after needle insertion and stimulation and don't perform prolonged manipulation of needles, this type of acupuncture can yield a major benefit – replace missing stimuli that are recommended by experienced Chinese acupuncturists.

Electro acupuncture is especially good in treating neurological diseases – from spasms to paralyses to chronic pains. For patients with serious heart conditions, this treatment should only be used with extreme caution. It's generally advised that electrodes not be placed close to the heart as the latter can respond unfavorably toward electrical impulses.
