Auricular Acupuncture - An Alternative Solution to Chronic Aches

M. Ben Aria

 Acupuncture

The ancient Chinese developed ear or auricular acupuncture. It has to do with stimulating specific points on someone's skin via needle insertions at various points that are related to internal bodily functions. When energy or qi movement inside the body is weakened, stagnant or blocked, auricular acupuncture can help balance the energy out.

Physically, ear acupuncture is used to up energy and immunity levels, reduce pain, induce relaxation, decrease stress and normalize sleep patterns. Emotionally and mentally, ear acupuncture makes people feel alert, focused, clear and calm. It is especially helpful in stress management and the treatment of chemical dependencies.

What Is Auricular Acupuncture?

In its simplest terms, ear acupuncture is a specialized supportive therapy where acu-points located on the outer ears are treated using electro acupunctoscopes or needles. This type of acupuncture is useful in relieving a number of chronic pain complaints.

There are close to 200 acu-points found on the external ear. Each of these points is typically named after areas of the human anatomy – hips, liver, knees, shoulders and others. People's outer ears act much like a switchboard to their brains. Acupuncture points on ears when treated, deliver electrical impulses from the ears (through the brain) to whatever area of the body is undergoing treatment. For example, if a person had a painful knee, treating his “knee” acu-point on the ear could help ease the pain.

Auricular Acupuncture And Drug Misuse

There are lots of benefits in ear acupuncture treatment for curing substance abuse or misuse. Some of them are listed below.

* Ear acupuncture significantly reduces a person's cravings for drugs and alcohol.

* It lessens the amount of hostility in people.

* Ear acupuncture is cheaper than most pharmaceutical treatments for addiction.

* It alleviates the symptoms associated with withdrawal.

* Diagnosis sessions aren't required in ear acupuncture treatments. Immediate relief is achieved and proactive or hands-on actions are provided to clients.

* Ear acupuncture ups a person's desire to join and take part in long-term programs.

* It lessens the incidence of denial.

Majority of chronic complaints are treatable with auricular acupuncture. The success rates associated with such treatments can reach as high as 95 percent. Ear acupuncture needles are a bit different from the usual hypodermic needles. They're much thinner and not hollow. The needles normally don't hurt especially if patients focus on their breathing. These acupuncture treatments are totally non-addicting. There's even a natural tendency to want less and less treatment as patients' recoveries progress.
