Some might raise their eyebrows but the fact is that acupuncture for weight loss offers benefits that are not quite apparent.
Acupuncture for Weight Loss – How It Works
First of all, acupuncture cannot be a weight loss program by itself. Rather, it is an excellent way to complement other weight loss activities like dieting and exercise. Acupuncture is based on the Chinese idea of energy flowing in our bodies. An imbalance in this pattern leads to a host of physical and emotional illnesses. There are many ways how acupuncture can help a person lose weight. Below are some of the most popular reasons.
Promotes Better Metabolism – The body may be in a stupor and is not burning enough calories. One doesn’t even have to believe the metaphysical theories surrounding acupuncture. The act of placing needles in the body has been proven to release endorphins which help improve the digestive system. Most people who feel get acupuncture also report feeling much lighter and more active. This, of course, helps them feel more energetic and allows them to exercise more.
Helps Fight Stress – Depression is one of the major reasons why many people suffer from weight problems. Treating depression can indirectly alleviate emotional eating. The release of endorphins through acupuncture has been proven to provide a relaxing and calming effect. This helps reduce anxiety, which in turn can decrease symptoms of depression. Of course, the simple act of undergoing treatment is respite from the anxiety produced by life.
Diet Counseling – Acupuncturists know much more than stick needles in your body. They have been trained in the ways of Chinese homeopathic medicine and nutrition. They can provide sound diet plans to complement your acupuncture and weight loss. Acupuncture, being a practice born out of the ideology of balance and harmony, usually incorporates diet modification. Practitioners who use acupuncture for weight loss also use herbal medicine to complement the treatment.
