Acupuncture And Infertility

 Acupuncture

Acupuncture and infertility treatments are rarely heard together. However, more and more desperate couples are now trying acupuncture as a possible solution to infertility. Acupuncture has been traditionally viewed with utmost suspicion by medical experts trained in the West. This is because the roots of acupuncture lay in ancient Chinese metaphysics. Lately, it has begun to be accepted because of positive research results about its efficacy. Acupuncture and infertility treatments may be the future.

Acupuncture and Infertility – A Real Option?

The use of acupuncture for infertility treatment is highly contentious. Many medical experts claim that there is nothing which acupuncture can do for infertility. The use of acupuncture for infertility, they say, is more grounded on eastern mysticism than science. However, many acupuncturists say that there is, in fact, startling evidence that acupuncture can help with infertility. They go on to say that a majority of those who seek acupuncture as treatment for infertility achieve positive results.

Acupuncturists say that the reason behind treating infertility is still not understood completely. Some claim that the procedure stimulates the nervous system increasing the body’s ability to heal. Some say that acupuncture improves the overall metabolism of the body. Acupuncturists do agree that the treatment is only an adjunct to other fertility treatments or used only for minor cases that do not involve physical damage to the reproductive system.

Most people with infertility problems turn to acupuncture when options are running low. Surprisingly, a large percentage of those who seek treatment do report success in conceiving, especially those who later undergo in vitro fertilization. This has led to a dramatic increase for acupuncture treatment amongst those with infertility problems. Because of this continuing popularity, many acupuncturists and doctors agree that more research into this practice would be beneficial.

Acupuncture and infertility is quite a new concept. Caution should be exercised when seeking treatment. Ideally, choose only those with a good reputation or those with several referrals. Each state has different laws governing the practice of acupuncture. Some states require licensure. Be sure to check the local regulations to be sure that the provider is meeting them.
